The Kent Trust's Sevenoaks Reserve (close to Riverhead) is currently host to some very interesting birds.
With the cold conditions up to 3 bitterns are present, usually visible at the eastern end of the reserve from the Eric Sutton hide.
Close by, at the new Slingsby hide, up to 4 water rails have been giving very close views (see photos). A female goosander is also resident along with the numerous other wildfowl.

At the Trust's nearby Bough Beech Reserve, three female smew have been spotted and it is not exceptional now to have counts of upwards of 10 common buzzard in the sky at one time, the best time being mid morning in sunny conditions.
Peregrine falcons are also seen regularly at the Reserve.
